UX design focuses on how an experience works from beginning to end. UI design focuses on the visual and interactive layer through which someone experiences it.
A simple way to see the difference.
Imagine a business dashboard. UX determines which information belongs there, what the owner needs first, how she moves from a warning to a decision, and what happens after she acts. UI determines how those priorities appear on screen: layout, type, color, controls, states, and feedback.
UX without UI can be structurally sound but difficult to understand. UI without UX can look polished while sending people through the wrong steps. Strong digital products need both.

- What happens before, during, and after each screen
What UI designers work on
- Visual hierarchy, typography, color, and spacing
- Components, controls, and responsive layouts
- Interaction states, motion, and feedback
- Consistency and accessibility across the interface
- The visual language that makes the product recognizable
UX decides when the system should ask a question, show a source, request approval, or act automatically. UI makes those states clear enough that the person knows what happened, what the system knows, and what needs them next.
AI changes execution, not the need for design judgment.
AI can produce wireframes, copy variations, components, and prototypes quickly. That makes framing more important. Someone still has to understand the person, choose the right problem, decide what the system should do, recognize weak output, and direct the experience toward a useful result.
The line between UX and UI can blur in small teams, and job titles vary. The durable distinction is this: UX owns the logic of the experience; UI owns the clarity and character of its interface. Both are ways of translating human needs into something usable.
